Magazine St.

Today we went down to Magazine St. for some shoppin', one of my favorite parts of the city! Funky Monkey is an awesome vintage store that has such unique stuff. They sell K&B, McKenzie's, and World's Fair t-shirts.

While wandering around, we revisited an antique store that we went to in August 2005. I remember that hot/humid day very clearly. We each bought these pretty turquoise stones, thinking they would bring good things to us! Fortune, happiness, and luck. I think me and my mom kept ours in our change holder in the car, and Alli may have kept hers in her coin purse. Well, needless to say, two weeks later Katrina came through and left our community much less fortunate, unhappy, and far from lucky. We chunked them the next day. :) Oh, and don't worry, we did not buy anything from that place today. I spotted a cool voodoo doll that I wanted, but figured that but lead to a nuclear bomb or something way more extreme, hehe!

While I was taking pictures, this kid came up to me and said, "take a picture of me yo." Okay. Haha.

So Joey, I challenge you. I can no longer speak for the both of us buddy. I'm in Nola, you are in Baton Rouge.

Go ahead, post. Be bold. Tell us what's going on in your hood.

We made it!

So, apparently New York had a blizzard yesterday as we were leaving. A ton of flights were canceled leaving lots of people stranded. Our plane needed to be de-iced before leaving-fun fun!

Ahhhh tropical weather here- a high of 73 with a wind chill of 68 :)

Alli is going to a Christmas party tomorrow night. She decided to give one of her friends a gag gift...a signed picture of herself! Hahaha. So I took one of her tonight with the influence of a sassy Parisian sipping on her wine. Tomorrow we'll print it out and sign it saying: "To my biggest fan. XOXO - Alli"

(ps- Alli would like to set the record straight. Grape juice was used for acting purposes. Not wine.)

Bela' Fleck and the Flecktones

[I am taking a break from packing. Why torture myself with work when I can do more fun things like post on the blog?]

Tonight we went to see a Bela' Fleck and the Flecktones show at the jazz club 'Blue Note'!

The show started at 8:00, but we got there super early to hopefully get a good viewing spot at the bar. (It was 30 bucks for a spot at the bar or 55 bucks for a reserved table.) Well, it turned out the bar was in a horrible spot with no seats, so we put out name down for a 'no show' table.

While we were waiting at the bar, Victor Wooten walked into the place like he just got out of a cab and whizzed right by us. Both Joey and I just froze. We were kicking ourselves afterwards cause we could have asked him for a picture! For those who don't know, Victor Wooten is Joey's idol, and for good reason. It's been said that he is the best bass player since Jaco Pastorius.

We wound up getting seats at a table and enjoyed the show. They performed a bunch of songs from their Christmas album and Victor got a solo!

Then after the show we had VIP passes to hangout with the band because we are that cool. *throws hair over shoulders* Okay maybe not... They had their albums for sale upstairs and let anyone go up there to get autographs/pictures.

Joey's so blurry, but that is Bela' Fleck and Victor Wooten right behind him!

Ta-dah!!!! A picture of Joey and Victor! Joey was beaming the whole way home. Got to shake this guys hand, get his autograph, and be in a picture with him.

The signed album!

Merry Christmas!

Una noche Mexicana!

Last week Megha told me that she was going to plan a birthday dinner for me, and last night was the night. We went to Cab Caliente and had muy bueno food and margaritas! For those that don't know, Megha is such an awesome/funny person! Absolutely adore her...

She shared a story that I'm still laughing about (you may or may not find it as funny), but here it is:
Apparently she was always in trouble as a kid. Her family was on the opposite side of the spectrum. She described her parents as being these adorable Indian people with high morals and a calm disposition, so they would often get frustrated with her. Well, she got home from school one day and was greeted by her parents waiting for her at the kitchen table. They said, "Megha, do you have anything you need to tell us?" She paused, and was thinking of countless things that she was guilty of. She didn't want to openly confess about any of them, because her confession could have been worse than the issue her parents had. So she played it safe and said "no!" Her mom, decked out in her lab coat, says in a cute Indian accent, "Megha, I found this letter in your room." She then preceded to read the letter to Megha which was basically talking about drugs and terrrible things. Megha realized that what she was reading was lyrics to a Ludacris song called "Roll out". So she interrupted her mom and said no, that's "Ludacris!", meaning the rapper. Her mom says "no, that's not Ludacris, that's ridiculous!! What is in your bag! Are you a drug dealer?!!!" Hahaha. She may have been bad, but not that bad!

Anyways, back to the party. Here is Megha and Blaine.

Steve (my awesome co-captain from Team Usa), Nikki, and Megha.

Just when I thought the night couldn't get any better, Ian announced that he had brought me a present. And what was it? A Plunger!!!!!!!! Hahahahaha!!!! I was dying laughing. For those who don't know, my gift for the White Elephant Party was a toilet seat, which good ol' Ian wound up with. So a plunger was just so awesome/appropriate. He asked the people at the hardware store if he could have a gift receipt or gift wrapping, but was declined.

Ian's face!Hehehe!

Ian was mostly excited about the subway ride home with the beloved plunger. We got a few strange looks, which made it that much better!

Joey noticed that the bottom of Megha's coat looked like a weird coat tail. Well, she realized that she only had one arm through the jacket underneath her coat. So the other arm was hanging out of her coat. :) Hehe.

By the way, it was snowing last night. Walking through the West Village with the snow pouring down was so beautiful. I would have taken a picture, but I was too cold to reach into my purse to get my camera! Next time though :)

buuurrrttday night

I love Shake Shak! I got my cheeseburger with a grape soda and it was great. But I then needed to finish it off with something sweet.... so we then headed over to Magnolia Bakery for some chocolate cupcakes. Oh, so healthy!

Freddy and Elizabeth-
Joey linking arms with Freddy and Elizabeth. Such a sweet boy, haha.

This is where it gets interesting. Freddy tried to pick up Joey by letting him lay on his arms...nah, didn't work very well.

This execution style was much more successful! Hahaha...

Beth taking a bite at my Magnolia Bakery box. You can't really see it, but under my jacket is my new Led Zeppelin shirt that Joey gave me. It's sooooooo cool!!!

Flowers that Beth brought over that were so pretty! There is something about getting fresh flowers from a NY flower stand that is so, well, New Yorkish. It's like they can be a dainty accessory while walking around the city.

Yay for awesome NY friends!

It's a tough life...

but someone's gotta do it.

Lucy still sleeps sprawled out on her back like a person. When she realized I was taking a picture, she crossed her legs like a little lady.

Here's a few cool pictures from the park today.

No more leaves on the trees :(

I was looking at the lake, and realized there were no moving ripples in the water. Well, it was frozen!

Oh, and uber thanks to all of the cards, calls, and presents for my birfday!!! I feel so loved. *sigh*

Tonight, I am going to the Shake Shak for cheeseburgers and grape soda with my friends. Then later in the week is Mexican night with Joey's/my friends.

PS- I'm 25. God, that's getting old. A quarter of a century old!!!!!

Something fishy is going on....

It's a winter wonderland in New Orleans right now, while here in NY it's rainy, cold, and ugly!!!

I stole these images from Nola.com. I so wish I was there to see this and get pictures of my own!
